Connecting With Country
First Nations Engagement
Connecting to Country is centred around authentic and respectful engagement with Traditional Custodians, local knowledge holders and community members. Through facilitated workshops, conversations and culturally grounded engagement process, we create space for First nations voices to be heard and honoured, fostering inclusion and building relationships.
First Nations Place Research
First Nations Place Research is a foundational document that provides a base understanding of Country and its cultural landscape. It brings together local history from a western context, First Nations history, occupation and significant aspects of Country, alongside key ecological insights into geology, regional ecology and biodiversity.
Design Principles
First Nations Design Principles are developed through careful analysis of a specific place and its cultural context. Informed by First Nations perspectives and aspirations, these principles articulate key values and priorities that guide future outcomes.
Public Art Development and Management
Public art development and management at Burrundi Design Studio involves facilitating the integration of artworks by First Nations artists. This process supports the creation and delivery of works that foster connection to Country and reflect First Nations cultural knowledge.
Workshops
Cultural Awareness Workshop
This workshop is tailored to the built environment industry and professionals wanting to engage with First Nations people and designing with Country. The workshop structure allows participants to gain meaningful foundational knowledge across several sectors of Cultural Competency.
Designing With Country Workshop
The workshop is structured to develop a deep understanding of the interconnected systems of First Nations culture and connection to Country. This workshop will help participants develop a greater understanding of the key processes and methodologies used to develop authentic design outcomes.
Weaving Workshop
Burrundi Design Studio offers either a half or full day workshop with renowed artist Kim Ah-Sam, a Kalkadoon-KuKu Yalanji women born and raised on Turrbal and Jagera Country. Providing a great opportunity for schools and business’ to engage and learn First Nations knowledges and cultural practices through weaving. Workshops can be tailored for specific outcomes.
